Home Assistant Select
The homeassistant select platform allows you to create a select that mirrors a Home Assistant select or
input_select entity using the native API. The device subscribes to the entity’s state, and
selecting an option on the device calls the select.select_option or input_select.select_option action, chosen
from the entity’s domain.
The options are read from the entity’s options attribute at runtime and are kept up to date when they change in
Home Assistant.
NOTE
Although you might not plan to export states from the node and you do not need an entity of the node in Home Assistant, this component still requires you to register the node under Home Assistant. See: Connecting your device to Home Assistant.
Home Assistant must also allow the device to perform actions. See Actions.
# Example configuration entryselect: - platform: homeassistant id: house_mode entity_id: input_select.house_modeConfiguration Variables
Section titled “Configuration Variables”- entity_id (Optional, string): The entity ID to import / control from Home Assistant.
Must be in the
selectorinput_selectdomain. Required unless the entity is a linked input of the API wizard, which lets the user pick the entity when the device is added. - internal (Optional, boolean): Mark this component as internal. Internal components will not be exposed
to the frontend (like Home Assistant). Defaults to
true. - max_options (Optional, int): The most options the device can hold, between
1and255. Defaults to16. - options_buffer_size (Optional, int): The number of bytes reserved for the option text, between
2and4096. Each option uses its length in UTF-8 bytes plus one. Defaults to256. - All other options from Select.
Option Storage
Section titled “Option Storage”Storage for the options is reserved when the device boots. If Home Assistant sends a list with more options than
max_options, or more text than fits in options_buffer_size, the list is rejected with an error in the log
naming the setting to increase, and the previous options are kept.
NOTE
The device sends its entity list to Home Assistant before the options arrive. With internal: false, the
options shown for this select in Home Assistant only update after the next reconnection, and are empty on the
first connection.
