Home Assistant Text

The homeassistant text platform allows you to create a text that mirrors a Home Assistant text or input_text entity using the native API. The device subscribes to the entity’s state, and changing the text on the device calls the text.set_value or input_text.set_value action, chosen from the entity’s domain.

The entity’s min, max and mode attributes are read once when the device connects to Home Assistant, and the length limits are enforced on the device. The pattern attribute is not read.

NOTE

Although you might not plan to export states from the node and you do not need an entity of the node in Home Assistant, this component still requires you to register the node under Home Assistant. See: Connecting your device to Home Assistant.

Home Assistant must also allow the device to perform actions. See Actions.

# Example configuration entry
text:
- platform: homeassistant
id: greeting
entity_id: input_text.greeting
  • entity_id (Optional, string): The entity ID to import / control from Home Assistant. Must be in the text or input_text domain. Required unless the entity is a linked input of the API wizard, which lets the user pick the entity when the device is added.
  • internal (Optional, boolean): Mark this component as internal. Internal components will not be exposed to the frontend (like Home Assistant). Defaults to true.
  • mode (Optional, string): Defines how the text should be displayed in the frontend. One of TEXT or PASSWORD. Defaults to TEXT. Replaced by the entity’s mode attribute once it is received from Home Assistant.
  • All other options from Text.
